Yaw Ampofo Ankra, the chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Beach Soccer Competitions Committee, officially confirmed the intention of Keta Sunset Sports to hold a beach soccer tournament in honour of former team president Jerry John Rawlings. It was reported by the Ghanaweb.
"We always felt a special bond with President Rawlings because we train in his hometown Dzelukope and travel to play our matches in Accra", — said the CEO of Keta Sunset Sports, Ruben Dzidodo Adjahoe.
Adjahoe also noted that the former president still supports the team financially. The team plans to present Rawlings with the trophy that the players won at the 2019 Lagos Cup in Nigeria once the restrictions will be lifted.
"The fact that President Rawlings was keenly following the team's exploits was a big deal for all of us and presenting the trophy to him was a dream come true", - Adjahoe said.
The JJ Rawlings Cup is scheduled to become an annual event.
