Iran is out of the World Cup after losing to Japan


Asian Beach Soccer Championship continues with knockout games in Thailand. It is also a qualifying tournament for the World Cup. In the second quarter-final match the Japanese team defeated Iran in overtime with a score of 3:2.

In the first period, the Iranians led with a score of 2:0. Both goals were scored after the penalty by Mahdi and Moradi. But in the remaining 24 minutes Japan managed to level the score. The game went into extra time, and in the 38th minute Akaguma scored the winning goal for Japan from the penalty box.

Japan will play with the winner of Palestine – Lebanon game n semifinals. Iran resigned as the current champion of the Asian Cup and lost the chance to compete in 2019 World Cup.
